Many people confuse the terms leader and manger. They here the company they work for refer to their managers as their “leadership team” or assume that if they get a promotion they will be the leader of their department, but nothing could be farther from the truth. This isn’t to suggest that managers cannot be leaders, they absolutely can be, but it does mean that managers are not automatically leaders. People follow managers because they are forced to and if they do not, there will be negative consequences (i.e. losing a job, etc...). People follow leaders because they CHOOSE to. They see the vision that the leader has and the example that they set and they decide that they want to be a part of that vision.

This begs the question, if you want to be a leader whether it be in your workplace, in your household, or in your own entrepreneurial endeavor, what type of vision and example are you setting for others to follow? This is a question that we must constantly be asking ourselves. It’s in the leader becoming a duplicatable blueprint for those that follow, that results in other leaders to rising up. The greatest leaders not only have good followers, but they develop others  to become leaders themselves. To properly develop others we have to first BECOME. It’s in the daily grind, through monotonous consistency and intentional practice that we ultimately become who we are meant to be. So make it a habit to stretch yourself to be better day in and day out and you will develop not only into a great leader, but one who develops other great leaders as well.

Be the blueprint.
